I have taken a hiatus from wedding photography this spring, but now I am back!
Wedding photography is available again and there are lots of dates left open.
When it comes to weddings, lots of brides leave a very small part of their budget for photography. For one day you will wear your dress and then it will be tucked away. There won't be another opportunity for you to wear it. For one day, you will have beautiful flowers and they they will wilt. The cake will be eaten. The guests will go home.....however, photographs will last forever. You can get them out and look at them over and over and over. So why do so many brides budget so little or depend on their friend with a nice camera or even worse, a nice cell phone to capture a once in a lifetime event?
My wedding packages start at $1200 and include an engagement session. Schedule your consultation today. Call 606-436-9939 or text 606-233-2148. You can message me via Facebook, Vanna Napier Photography or via my website, www.vannanapierphotography.com
My name is Vanna Napier and I am a photographer of beautiful things - children and horses and various other subjects. I will share the beautiful things I capture here for you to enjoy with me. Spring & Summer Portrait Sessions
It is finally safe to say that warm weather is here to stay for a little while! So, now it is time to schedule you spring and summer portrait sessions. Everybody loves outdoor portraits because people are much more relaxed in the great outdoors. I hear people say all the time, "I need to get my son's/daughters/family's picture made. We have had any made in forever." Even worse than that, I hear, "We've never had professional portraits made."
Contact me to schedule your portrait session now. Call 606-436-9939 or text 606-233-2149 or message me via my website, www.vannanapierphotography.com.
Horse people, remember that equine photography is one of my specialities. While you horse buddy is slick and shiny is the perfect time for a horse/human portrait. I will travel to you!

Things I Saw at the Knott County Trail Ride Besides Horses
I roamed around the campgrounds and near the road leading in to the Knott County Trail Ride and I saw a few things that caught my eye besides horses and mules. Hopefully in the fall, I can spend more time at the ride and get lots of images.
Cowgirls in a skirt and shorts
Little cowpokes driving a golf cart
I didn't actually see Cinderella, but she must have been there somewhere. Maybe she was in that pop-up camper behind her carriage.

Some brightly colored tack
An Indian Chief and a bear
And a convertible horse trailer
Makayla and Adam - Prom
I went to the Hindman Settlement School on Saturday afternoon to photograph Makayla and Adam before they headed off to their prom at Knott County Central High School. I must say that I would like to be able to go to the prom again.

Website is Back and Some Other Stuff
I closed my website a few days ago. I missed it, so it is back! Call me fickle or crazy or both, but a girl has the right to change her mind, doesn't she?
Same web address:
www.vannanapierphotography.com
The Knott County Trail Ride is happening now. I thought I was going to have to miss the whole thing this time because of some things going on at work, but it has all worked out and I will be there taking some pictures this weekend. I hear it's pretty muddy right now, but the sun is going to shine and it will be dry soon.
I have never ridden a horse at the trail ride. I haven't done any trail riding in about 10 years. I always feel like I should just show horses, but I haven't done that in 5 years. Geez! Where does time go?
Horse showing has changed a lot since I was showing as a teenager. Most of you know that I am a
Saddlebred lover and classes for Saddlebreds have become few and far between for them especially in this area. I would love to see that change, but if it doesn't, I will just ride them at home. Someday, I will have a Saddlebred trail horse. That will turn the heads of a lot of people in Eastern Kentucky who think Saddlebreds are crazy. Somebody will have to take MY picture when I get around to that!!!
Ok, enough rambling for this morning.
Stay tuned for new horse images in the next few days.

Tips for Taking Cell Phone Pictures
Everybody takes pictures with their cell phones. I see thousands of them on Facebook alone. Cell phone cameras have improved since the early models. You always have them with you so it's possible to capture anything from cute shots of your kids and pets to shot for the People of Walmart.
Here's a few tips to make your cell phone pictures better:
1.) Get down to the level of your subject. I see lots of pictures of kids and pets that have been made looking down at them. You want a picture of their faces, not the top of their heads. So sit down, squat down, get down.
2.) Don't get too low. If you sit on the couch or floor and take a picture of adult subjects standing up with a ceiling light on, the light will produce a glow at the top of the picture and you will be looking up the peoples noses, not to mention that when they look down at you, they might have double chins!
3.) If you zoom in, you will lose light and that meets the camera will take the picture slower and the picture will be slower. it is always better to walk closer to your subject than to zoom.
4.) Due to the type of lens in a cell phone camera, some subjects may appear distorted. This is especially true with horses. The horse will appear to have a big head and a little rear. Just plain funny looking. Try taking the picture from a profile to avoid this distortion.
5.) Finally, cell phones crash. Print your pictures so years from now when your phone is totally obsolete of has been run over by your car or lost or whatever, you will still have your pictures because those precious moment cannot be replaced.

Some Beautiful Images from the Archives
Since I have traded my website for a blog, I though I'd better add some images that had been posted on the website for all of you who haven't seen them before or for those of you who have, to see again. So, here's a few. There's lots more on my Facebook pages, Vanna Napier Photography and Vanna Napier Equine Photography.

Lillian and I did a little photo shoot today. She's such a happy baby. She smiles and giggles and jabbers all the time. Her bodyguard, Boomer, stays close by.

I posted on Facebook that I would start a new blog in a few days, but no time like the present. So here it is!
I will start this blog by telling a little about myself. My name is Vanna and I have been a professional photographer for 9 years and a photographer for way longer than that. I have always loved cameras and taking pictures. I just wish digital cameras and computers were available when I was a teenager! I would have taken millions of pictures by now and would have saved lots of money on film and developing! I could barely wait for the picture guy to bring the developed pictures to Magic Mart. I had his arrival down to the minute and if, for some reason, my pictures didn't return, I was beyond disappointed. He came twice a week and if I had to wait a few extra days, it felt like an eternity.
Other than being a photographer, I am a horse woman. I love all horses, but American Saddlebreds are my favorites. They have great personalities and they are beautiful and graceful too.
Photography is not my only profession. I have been a Registered Nurse for a long time, but this blog is not about nursing!!!
Since I said in the description of this blog that I photograph beautiful things, I'll post a couple of images of some beauties right now, Lillian and Sophie in their Easter dresses:
